Formatting

When it comes to formatting eg, when I try to bold,
underline or bullet point a word or line, the whole
document will change to bold, bullet point etc.

So then I go to the undo drop down menu to delete what I
have just done. That's where I noticed it
says 'Automatically Update Style'.

If I delete this Automically Update Styles the document
will return to how it was before but will leave the word
or line bolded, underlined like I wanted.

This happens with new or old documents.

Also when saving the document, the document becomes very
large. Eg: one document I was working on went from 582 KB
to over 10,000 KB from just changing the footer.

How can I stop this from happening?

To address the second issue, there are a number of reasons for excessive
file size, including:

1. Fast Saves: Disable this at on the Save tab of Tools | Options.

2. Preview Picture: Clear the check box on the Summary tab of File |
Properties.

3. Versions (File | Versions): Make sure "Automatically save version on
close" is not turned on.

4. Revisions (Tools | Track Changes):
Highlight Changes: Make sure "Highlight changes on screen" is turned on.
Accept/Reject Changes: If "Accept All" or "Reject All" is available then
revisions are present; accept or reject all changes, then turn Track Changes
off.

5. Embedded True Type fonts (Tools | Options | Save); embedding fonts should
be avoided wherever possible.

6. Embedded graphics: When feasible, it is preferable to link the graphics.

7. Document corruption: See
