I am writing a book using Word 2008. One day suddenly the number of pages increased from about 330 to 380 (great if I did it myself!). A few days later it jumped from about 385 to 425. What is going on? I printed out the first five pages of text and see that not as much text is covered now on those pages in the current saved version. The margins don't seem to have changed, nor the font.

There has to be something in the formatting that has changed. I didn't touch anything myself that I know of--in fact I watched it once suddenly add a bunch of pages.

Is the Word Count the same as before?

Take a look at Format - Paragraph - Line & Page Breaks.

See if Keep Lines Together and/or Keep With Next are checked. If they
are, that could account for what you're seeing.

A long shot, however.

That is a style that has been changed inadvertently, or has become corrupt.

What styles are you using?

What are the paragraph formatting properties of the style set to?
