Dear Greated Mac Intellect,

I have created an assigned task using Outlook XP SP2 on a
PC. The assigned task is saved under the .oft extension.

Is there a way for entourage to view this assigned task?
How do you assign tasks in entourage? Can entourage
read .oft files?

Any help/input would be greatly appreciated.

Much Obliged,

I'm not overly familiar with Outlook. I know that its (regular) tasks are
similar to Entourage tasks, but with more fields. But I'm not clear on
whether these "assigned" tasks are something different? You seem to be able
to save such an "assigned task" as a separate file in your file system? No,
Entourage cannot do that. In Entourage you can drag out a task from the
Tasks List and it becomes an .ics file which can be dragged or imported in
to another Entourage identity and maybe a few other programs (it might work
in iCal if you give it the correct "Opens With"). I'm rather doubtful that
Outlook would understand this format - it seems to have its own proprietary
..ics format - but it might. If you can export a Task from Outlook as an .ics
file, it's worth a try importing it into Entourage. When you get it to the
Mac, select it, press command-I to Get Info, select Opens With and choose
Entourage, then click Change All. It should now appear with the Entourage
icon. Double-click it and save it, if it opens up as a task window. But this
is quite doubtful.

Again, if this Assigned Task can be saved as a regular Task in Outlook, you
could export it - and as many others as you want, plus any calendar events,
contacts and notes - using my shareware scripts "Export-Import Entourage X",
available from
