Forms (Can User type in a drop down box?)

R

robo

Hello,

I have a drop down menu for users to select from. Can I give them the
ability to enter in their own value if they don't want to use the options in
the drop down box?

This might sound strange. I'm dealing with a french letter and people use
different words bases on the context of the sentence.

Thanks

Hi Robo:

Yes, you certainly can, if you code it that way.

Ask the specialists in the following group how to do it:
microsoft.public.word.vba.userforms

I have cross-posted your query there, since you will never find the group
from the Microsoft Communities madness. Before they go much further, the
VBA MVPs will need to know the exact version and patch level of Word and
your Operating System.

If you are using Word 2004, they need to know that you have only VBA version
5 available (which is why I just told them...) :)

Cheers

If by drop down box you mean a combobox on a userform, setting the
MatchRequired attribute of the combobox to False will make it so that the
user can enter data into the combobox. instead of selecting one of the items
that may already be loaded into it. Note, that doing just this, does not
however add the item to the list.

Hi John,

How about UserForms? You mean that you cannot create custom dialogs with
MacWord?

Hi Doug:

Oh, yes, I got a little confused there.

He can create a user form in a VBA project in Mac Word 2004.

And if he does, he can insert a combo box within it. And add logic to it!

But we're much more restricted than WinWord when it comes to the kinds of
controls you can insert without a user form. That's not the Mac's fault:
that's Microsoft's idea of marketing lock-in.

And you enjoy Patch Tuesday, you hear. Me, I don't have to worry about what
doesn't work on the second Wednesday every month :)

Cheers

p.s. Macs aren't fit for human consumption. The packaging tastes better.
