Forms in Word

Robert

I am running Word Premium 2000. Wondering if any one can
shed some light on how to create a standard type document.
It sort I looks easy but once I start I seem to get lost
all the time.

I know there is a feature in word that allows you to
create a template that when it is run prompts you to
answer certain questions. Ie., Your Name?, Your age?, What
College did you go to? What State do you live in? What is
your favourite movie? In twenty words or less explain your
views on enviromental protection?

In effect when you open the template word promts you with
each question and then you answer them. Once all the
questions have been asked the document opens and all the
answers have been inserted into the correct location in
the word document. It is now ready to print etc.

Appreciate any comments

Regards Robert

What you are describing sounds like ASK fields or FILLIN fields. These
display one question/prompt at a time. You can look these up in Word's help.

Much more sophisticated are UserForms (custom dialog boxes) which can gather
all of your info in one dialog box and then insert in your document. Check
out the MVP FAQ site for tutorials on doing this. UserForms can be a bit
daunting for a vba beginner but are worth learning.

You may also want to look into what Word calls an "online form." Look in
help using this in your question. These don't require vba and may be simpler
for you to set up. You insert fields in your document using the forms
toolbar. Once you protect your document for forms the only thing the user
can modify is the contents of the fields.
