Forms & Tabs

Hi Folks,

I have a paragraph of text where there are several 'blank' spaces left for
information to be filled in. I create the spaces by using the tabs on the
word immediately after the space. However, if there are more than one tab
to create the space, when I fill in the space with information, the trailing
word (After the space) gets knocked forward to the next tab.

Can anyone help me figure out how to make the trailing word stay on the tab
I originally set it to? I understand that if I fill the space with
something very long, the trailing word will need to move, but it moves as
soon as the text, in the space before it, passes one of the tabs in the
empty space.

Perhaps there is a tutorial that can explain how to make a form that will
not get messed up when I fill in the spaces?

Thanks very much,

By default each tab you put in the document will take the text to the next,
say, 1/2" if you are working in inches. If you put a tab marker in the tab
toolbar it then 'deletes' all the default tab markers to the left of it. So,
with a tab marker at say 3" and one tab in the text the text will start at
3". If you put another tab in the text the text will move to 31/2". If you
want it to move to 5" then you'll need to put a tab marker on the toolbar at
5". Putting in text before the tab will push the tab along if the text is
longer than up to the tab marker.

As far as I can see you can't work with any tab markers in the text
otherwise the text will be shifted to the next tab marker or default tab
marker if it's too long - which is what you are saying. I can't think of a
way of overcoming this for your purposes other than by putting say the word
COMPLETE in capitals and allow the person completing the boxes to substitute
his text for that word.
