Forms; today's date

Out of no where our "today's date" boxes on our forms are
locked on dates from last month.

If we unlock the form, click on the date box. Change
nothing - but close it and lock the form - then today's
date appears. How do I get this back to an automatic
function?

We have Word 2000 and Word 2002, Windows 98 environment on
a LAN.
