Formula bar and instant crashing

1. in 2008 why can't I have the formula bar as part of the fixed set of toolbars? Why does it have to float? Anyone know how to fix this?
2. Exel is crashing instantly and persistently - I think it's when my laptop isn't connected to its supplementary screen, which is where I keep the floating formula bar. When the screen is connected and the formula bar floating on it, all seems fine.
Any ideas?

Keeping the formula bar separate from document windows was a design
decision, since there can only be one active formula bar, even if
multiple/serial windows are selected.

However, the toolbar can be docked at the screen edge rather than
floating.

I can't reproduce your problem since I don't have a second screen.
However, it wouldn't surprise me if the second screen is the root of the
problem.

Does XL crash if you shut it down before disconnecting from the screen
(as opposed, to, say, putting the machine to sleep with XL still open,
disconnecting the screen, then waking up the machine)?

Does it crash if you put the toolbar on your laptop's screen instead?

Hi,

I've seen the Crash when connected to an external monitor and it is
being investigated.
