Formula Bar Font

Domenic

At times, whenever I open a new file, the font type in the formula bar
changes to some other font type.

In order to change it back to its original type, I have to click into
the formula bar and hit ENTER.

I've tried trashing the preferences, but the problem persists. These
are the files I trashed:

com.microsoft.Excel.plist
Excel Toolbars (10)
Excel Keyboard Shortcuts
Excel Settings (10)
Microsoft Graph Toolbars (10)

Any one have any idea as to why this may be happening?

Thanks,
Domenic

Hi Domenic-

It would help to know which version of Excel & what font it's changing
from and what font its changing to, but here's a guess. The Font Name
box on the ToolBar indicates what font has been applied to the cell
which is currently active (selected). If the font has not been changed
from the default (Arial if I remember correctly), that's what will
appear. If you change fonts while working in a file the name of that
font (such as Verdana) is what appears in the Font Name box when you
select that cell.

The same principal holds true when you open a new file or an existing
file. In a new file the default font name will appear. In other files
the font that has been applied to the active cell (usually A1) is what
shows.

The font used by the Formula Bar is determined by the default font set
in Excel>Preferences>General>Standard Font. Perhaps the font you have
that set to is corrupted. You may want to try changing to a different
Standard Font and if that change "holds" it suggests that you may need
to replace the damaged font. If the change doesn't improve things,
there is something more at work that probably involves your fonts
rather than Excel.

Hope the info helps! If not I'm sure you will get some good suggestions
through the thread.

Hi CyberTaz!
It would help to know which version of Excel...

I'm using Excel X.
..& what font it's changing
from and what font its changing to...

Well, the default font is Verdana and I haven't change it for any of the
problem files. When I open a file, the font named in the box is still
Verdana, but the font in the formula bar is something else.
Unfortunately, I don't know to which font it changes.

Then, when I click into the formula bar and hit enter, the font displays
in its original font type.

In any case, changing the font doesn't change the font displayed in the
formula.
You may want to try changing to a different
Standard Font and if that change "holds" it suggests that you may need
to replace the damaged font. If the change doesn't improve things,
there is something more at work that probably involves your fonts
rather than Excel.

I don't think that will make a difference. But I may try it anyways.
It couldn't hurt. :)

Thanks for your help, CyberTaz!

Cheers!
