For some reason, I cannot seem to display the formula bar any more. To
bring out the problem, I opened up a new empty workbook and place a
formula into one of the cells, =C5+C12. The formula works just like it
is supposed to. Then I did the following.
1. I went to the VIEW menu.
2. I toggled the Formula Bar item several times.
The check mark next to the Formula Bar item appeared and disappeared
just like I would expect it to. Nevertheless, there was no change in the
tool bar area. Double clicking on the formula's cell displayed the
formula independent of whether the check mark showed or not.
I have run into problems like this before. There often seems to be some
hidden preference that is difficult to track down. What is happening?
Can it be that allowing editing in a cell disables the formula bar?
