Okay I must be as dumb as a waffle. I don't quite understand some of the responses from previous June post on how and where you can lock the formula bar. I see one of the MVP's said it can be done but I can't figure it out or maybe I don't get it. The only place it stays in one place is if I drag it completely off the open page for Excel. That means off the workbook completely. When means if I move the workbook to see something behind it, then pretty much the formula bar isn't where i need it when I come back, If that's what's meant by bring able to lock it? If it is it's not quite what I had in mind. Am I wrong in this or am I still as dumb as a waffle on how to do this?

You're not even close to sinking to waffle level, you just haven't read
through enough of the replies :)

See my reply of July 19 in this very thread. Nothing has changed.

A little late in answering, seems even though I check "send email when replied to" I don't get one.

I've searched using your name "Bob Jones" your tag "Cyber Taz" and so far found nothing in reply to the question. I must be doing something wrong.

Well, here ya go:

=====================================
Hi Scott -

Straight answer: The Formula Bar cannot be docked anywhere within the
workbook window in Excel 2008. It can only be docked immediately below the
Menu Bar, between that and the top edge of the window. [FWIW, I often use it
to cover up the Element Gallery button bar - that works out OK as long as
you don't move windows around much :)

If you find it as objectionable as most people do, use Help> Send Feedback
to help raise the consciousness level of those who may be able to implement
a change somewhere down the road.

I'm not sure that the email notification functions as it should ‹ I rarely
use the web portal. However, it appears that you do, so I don't understand
how you couldn't find that message if you can locate the thread it's in...

Ahhh! I just did some poking & it appears that there are *2* threads by the
exact same Subject name. As a result my newsreader is winding them together
as one ‹ but interestingly enough you started *both* of them :)

Do your search based on the subject: Formula Bar & the first 2 hits will be
your July 9 & Aug 25 posts.

Thanks Bob,
I guess that answers that, and yes I have vehemently posted my objection to the formula bar's lack of tethering to MSFT

Sorry it couldn't be better news, but thanks for adding your vote on the
issue. I believe there are quite a few who feel the same way... Or at least
that the docking option should be available.

I agree. I want the formula bar to stay where I put it and be there when I return to the document. How do I complain to the right location?
