formula copying

I have a column A en B. In column C I have put the formula =A1+B1.

When I go to next row, to my surprise, as soon as I have filled in columns A
and B, the results shows immediatly in C. How come?

You have Tools>Options>Edit, "Extend data range formats and formulas"
checked

this is an option in 'Tools - Options - Edit'. Should read something
like 'Extend list/formula'
