Formula extends down to rows past data - very slow opening

I have found the culprit of a slow opening spreadsheet. Somehow (if anyone
knows how - let me know), I had a look up formula to the end of spreadsheet
or so I suppose, it was thousands of rows below my data in one column. I am
not clear how I set it up this way? Can anyone tell me why this happened ,
and how do you clear everything under your data (formulas, formats) all the
way to the end of the spreadsheet? What determines the end? It was taking
about 2 minutes to open. I copied out the rows I wanted and started over but
that is not always a great solution. Any suggestions on clearing cells past
the data and how to avoid getting a formula extended beyond data? Appreciate
any help.

If you enter something way down the sheet, that's the last used cell as far
as Excel is concerned, even if you delete it.
Use Ctrl and End together on the keyboard to find what Excel thinks is the
last used cell and then grab all the rows between there and the end of your
data and DELETE them, Clear Contents won't do it. Do the same with Columns.

Thanks for your help. I believe i have more going on with this one. I do as
you say and it goes to the end 3063 row AC column. I have only 156 rows of
data over to column AB. I can't figure out why it thinks something is there!
Could conditional formatting do this?

thanks for the website. . . I cleared contents and it worked. I am wondering
if it is because i select the column for conditional formatting or something
like this happened? no idea, but I appreciate your help!
