I have Excel v.X and am struggling to create a formula where 1=a letter
(the same letter in a row) ; i just want to be able to autosum the
number of letters in a row. I want the letter to appear in the row and
the total number of letters at the bottom of the row. This is done
daily and i would also like to have a YTD fxn. thanks1

One way:

=COUNTIF(A1:Z1,"a")

Since rows go across rather than down, I'm not sure what you mean by
"bottom of the row". Since you didn't mention anything about dates, I'm
not sure how a YTD function would work.
