Formula Referencing Problem

R

RGO

We are using Microsoft Office XP and have an Excel file with three
worksheets. A worksheet named 'List' has the raw data. The second
worksheet is named 'Grid', which is the formatted stuff. 96 cells in
'Grid' have formulas that point to cells in 'List'. An example pasted into
this email: =List!A35

The problem: The majority of the cells display the correct values, but
several display the formula. If the formula is deleted and retyped, the
problem is NOT fixed - the formula still displays, not the linked value.

My colleague tells me that this sort problem did not exists with Microsoft
Office 2000.

If anyone has experience with this problem, please let us know.

Bob,

Check the formatting of the cell (Format menu, Cells item, Number tab) and
ensure that the formatting is NOT text. Change it to General or some
numeric format and re-edit the formulas.

Chip,
I checked the format of the cell and it was text. I changed the format to
general (tried number too), deleted the formula, reentered it and it works
correctly. Of note: I checked some of the other cells that are working
correctlly and they are formatted as text. Go figure...

Thanks for helping us solve this problem

Bob
