I'm looking for an Excel formula that will compare cells in two columns and
shade one or both cells if they are not equal.

Example: if A1=B1,(stet-no change happens),format with red font or blue
shading or....

Look at conditional Formatting in help, for instance if you compare text you
select the cell you want to have a red font, assume you compare A1 with B1.
I am also assuming you are using Excel 2003 or earlier

select A1, do format>conditional formatting, select cell value equal to B1,
click the format button in the same dialogue box and select red font, click
OK twice.

Hi, Peo,
I followed your instructions, but for some reason it doesn't work in all
cells in column. For example: If I want it formatted to shade the cells if
the name John is in A1 and the name Mary is in B1, it works for A1 and B1,
but when I select the entire column it isn't consistently shading the cells
that don't match. Any thoughts on how to apply to an entire column?
