formula to show text information from sub-level task in summary ta

Dear all,
I like to do the following:
show resource ID's of sub-level tasks also in the summary task so that I am
able to show these in the graphical area on summary level.
I tried to use a custom field which contains e.g. the information of the
standard field "resource ID" but this is only possible in a text field -
unfortunately, I did not find a way to customize the field to roll this
information up.
Any idea for a formula to do so?
Thanks much in advance,
best regards
Gabi

Hello Gabi,
A formula cannot do that because all the addresses of a formula are
"horizontal" : on the same row. Only a VBA procedure could do that.

Hi Gabis,

Also, not only can't you choose a field for Resource ID in a Gantt chart,
but you should be aware that the Resource ID may not be constant. Inserting
or deleting a resource in the Resource Sheet view will renumber the IDs.
You can also sort the data and permanently renumber them.

Hi Mike,
sorry, I mistyped... I wanted to use the "resource initials" information.

OK, Gabus. Project will not roll-up resource initials as it is possible to
assign resources themselves to summary tasks and these would conflict.

Hi Gérard,
thanks for the hint.
Did anyone out there have already the same need so that a VBA for this might
exist already?

Hi Mike,

thanks for the comment, that's right!
How about if I use the resource initials for internal resources, a text
field for the initials of external resources and create a new text field
where I can combine the content of these 2 by a formula. Would it be possible
to roll-up this text field into the summary?

Thanks and kind regards
Gabi

You're welcome, Gabi :) But the answer is still no. The best I can offer
is for you to type in the initials into a Text field which you can then show
on the summary line - you'll have to do it for every summary.

As I want to reorder my resources permanently based on the work they have done before exporting them to Excel (I create a sheet for each resource, so they will be in order of the amount of work), I would like to know HOW you can change the Resource-IDs .

In the 'View | Resource Sheet' I sorted on 'Work' and also see the 'ID' column. But I can't change the 'ID' values, nor do I see an option to permanently renumber the resources.
I'm using MS Project 2003

You can't change the ID column, AFAIK and understand. In fact, Project
uses the ID internally as the "identifier" of the resourc. If you could
change it, it breaks everything. Why not just force the order you want,
both in Project simply clicking on the Work Columm and pick "sort by"?
This can be automated (although I don't know if the order "sticks" in
the export file). Experiment. But changing ID field to force a sort
order isn't the right approach, IMHO.

Trevor,
Cool. I never ever looked closely at the dialogue box for sorting. That
is a demo of waht is so interesting about Project as there is always
more to learn about it. Thanks.
