"formula too long"

BobbieB

Any help would be apprecated....I have several links in a file. The files
were moved from one server to another. I can't access the old server. I
need to update the links to reference the files on the new server. The
source and destination files are both open. I clicked edit, links, change
source and selected the new file. I get an error that indicates the formula
is too long.

I think this is because the old path is in the formula.
=SUM('C:\Customer Services\Mickey\xxxx Portfolios\Marketing
Initiatives\Sellout segmentation\Plan Sellout\4+8 fcst\[Revenue Sellout -
Monthly GL Amounts - xxx Trns.xls]2006'!E7:E10)

How can I make the updates without editing the individual formulas.

Thanks

Try using Find/Replace...find the old path and replace with the new one.

That didn't work either. If I have to update all the formulas is there a way
to define a name for the workbook path, filename, and tab and then reference
it in the formula?

That way I could just update the cells that have a defined name the next time.

The SUM formula above is only 181 characters long, and I was able to
use Edit > Replace to make the directory path even longer. Are you
saying Excel can't change the formula above, or are there different
formulas with which it's having problems?
