formula toolbar

I have read the information posted in 2001 about the lost formula bar
upon opening Excel. I have had a recurring problem about losing my
formula toolbar on a recurring basis, usually when I fall asleep while
working at the computer late at night. When I wake up the formula bar
is gone, somewhere in the upper reaches of the screen far out of sight.
I know it is up there, because if I type a long passage in a single
cell, the remains of the paragraph will drop down into the upper
portion of the screen as the paragraph becomes long enough to fill a
large area.
I tried some of the options given in the solution in the earlier post
but they didn't work and I didn't understand some of the others.
I have also now lost my standard bar as well in the same way. I have
recreated my standard bar from the custom made tool settings but of
course cannot do the same with the formula bar, and it does slow me
down when doing formulas, etc.
I am not good at the loading of the software, and manipulating of that
sort of thing, usually making moe of a mess, so I have been trying to
fix this without having to do that.
Is there a way of resetting the formula toolbar without having to
resort to reloading the software? and in a language that is easy for a
person who isn't good at computer language to understand?
I have been working on this for weeks and am really frustrated.
Thank you.

In the "System Folder:preferences:Microsoft" folder, there is a file named
"Excel Toolbars (9)". If you close Excel, trash that file and relaunch
Excel, the Toolbars should return to their default settings. Or is this one
of the solutions you have tried and that didn't work?
