Formulas remain as text and are not calculating

I have a formula that is showing up just as text and is not calculating.
What setting do I need to change to allow the formula to execute?

What setting do I need to change to allow the formula to execute?

One possibility is that the formula does not have an equal sign before
it
eg =SIN(A2)

Another is that preferences are set to view Formulas
Excel > Preferences ... make sure that Formulas is not checked
(under Window Options)
