I have used Front Page Office for several years, and I previously hosted a
group on my site which had a forum. In order for group members to get into
this forum they had to go to my site and then type a password and username in
which allowed them into the forum.....no one else could get in. That group
now has its' own website and so I removed the forum from my site.

Now I want to set up a forum for a different group, but cant find the way
that I put on the password access page to the forum previously. Can someone
help ? I know the passwords were kept on a page called password.txt and
there was a passwords.asp page also......but how do i make this and the forum
page again ? i can find nothing in the book or on the website to help.

Thanks.

If hosted on a Unix/Linux server see the Self Registration page template

Thanks for your reply Stefan, but this template is not doing what I need. I
don't need the people to register themselves, that is adding themselves to
the site and picking and choosing their own passwords, which would allow
anyone who sees this page to enter....what I need to do is to allocate the
passwords to the legitimate people. is there a way of editing that
page/template to do what I require ?

Thanks

No
To manage users you need a database solution w/ server side script
- if on a Windows server see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825498/en-us

If on a *nix server you can password protect a directory, put the forum into
that directory and then provide the username and password to all people you
want to access that directory/.folder
