previously, the link on the email message took me directly to the message to read any replies. Now it takes me to the home page of mactopia. What has changed?

You'll need to ask the administrators of that website. Their "forums"
are simply a front-end to the free NNTP Usenet newsgroups, which are
accessible in a variety of ways beyond just their website.
