Forward/back navigation buttons

Gang,
I used to have a toolbar in Word 2004 that had forward and backward
buttons with right and left arrows, IIRC. These buttons allowed me to
navigate around a doc that had either hyperlinks or cross-references to
endnotes.

Since updating to Office 2008, I can't for the life of me find these
buttons or comparable commands. Are they in there or were they
eliminated from the new version?

I'm reading a doc with lots of hyperlinks to anchors within the doc, and
it's killing me that I can't simply return to where I was before
clicking one, without memorizing what page I was on and scrolling back.
Grr.

TIA,
Dennis

Hi Dennis:

Those were the "Forward hyperlink" and "Backward hyperlink" commands that
were on the Web toolbar in Word 2004.

The Web toolbar, and the commands on it, have all been removed from Word
2008.

While you have the document open, Shift + F5 will take you back through the
previous three positions of the cursor. That may help.

The Browse Object can be set to go to the next or previous HYPERLINK. Even
though the Browse Object is perhaps the most powerful navigation command in
Word 2008, it is completely undocumented in the Help!!

There's a tutorial on how to find and use it in Word 2002 here:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HA010429631033.aspx

It's exactly the same in Mac Word. Use Go To, and set it to "Field" then
drop down the disclosure arrow at the end of the "Any Field" box and choose
"HYPERLINK".

You can then choose to skip to the Previous or Next hyperlink in the
document.

If you close the prompt, Word will remember your setting. You can then
click the Previous and Next chevrons (either side of the round Browse Object
button) to navigate hyperlinks just as you always did.

You can use the Browse Object for all sorts of things, but I frequently use
it for repeating a Find I have set up when I am looking for all instances
of, say, a given Style in a document.

Hope this helps
