I give up trying to find some simple method of submitting this information to
Microsoft, so I'm posting it here:
The new e-mail notification that appears in the taskbar doesn't work
properly when the mailbox is IMAP4 and the junk e-mail filter is enabled.
If an e-mail is received that passes the filter and is then deleted, and
purged from the IMAP4 store, the notification disappears.
If an e-mail is received that is marked as junk by the filter and is
automatically marked as deleted, then purged from the IMAP4 store, the
notification does not disappear.
There doesn't seem to be any way of making it go away in the application
either, not that I've found anyway. Basically you have to close and re-open
Outlook and resync with the mailbox to make it go away.
Very annoying if you get a lot of spam (and who doesn't), all I can do
really is tighten up the SMTP filter on the server so most of it never
reaches the mailbox, but that only goes so far. Or disable the junk e-mail
filter and manually delete them all.
If anyone knows a solution (and don't say use POP3 or something like that, a
proper solution) I'm all ears.
Steve.
