FP 2000 won't run - get error messages, reinstallation makes no di

I changed computers a few weeks ago. Everything (and that's a lot) works fine
except I got a weird message when trying to run FP 2000. FP2000 used to run
just fine prior to the migration.

The error message is (Title of Dialog Box is Load Failure)
Cannot Load "F:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server
extensions\40\bin\FP4AUTL.DLL\fp4autl.dll"

I have since upgraded to Office 2003 Professional (from Office 2000
Professional), thinking (incorrectly) that FP 2003 came with it. No luck.

So, I went back and reinstalled (very carefully) only FP from the 2000 disk.
Same error.

I uninstalled and reinstalled again, hoping for better luck. Same error.

I searched the registry for any reference to "F:" - nothing there.

I have NO IDEA where the reference to F drive is coming from. I have no F
drive. Local drives are C, D, E. Remote (network) drives are Y and Z.

I really need to get FP going in order to maintain our business web site, so
this is no idle exercise.

All assistance very much appreciated.

Although I use the hotmail address to sign in via passport, please reply to
(e-mail address removed) if you would be so kind.

Thanks ever so much.

I'm not sure why the error message show the "F" drive although you don't have
such drive on your computer. I believe your Microsoft FrontPage is installed
correctly but you computer has a wrong volum on the drive. Let me be more
obvious, let see you have only one hard drive which your drive "C". All the
installation files are installed on a seperate folder specifically for that
program on this drive "C". Because your computer has assigned a wrong volume
to the drive your Microsoft FrontPage can't locate the folder to run the
required files. Your FrontPage looks in "F" drive to find the files but there
is no "F" drive.
You need to right click on my "My Computer" and then click on "Manage".
Under "Storage" click on "Disk Management". Try to see if you can change the
volume. If you can solve it good luck if not I would prefer you reinstall the
Windows unfortunately.
Good Luck

The entry you're looking for in the registry can be in two places:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\U
serData\S-1-5-18\Components\7C3447A0A9E62D11AA2A000A9CF0750B

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\U
serData\S-1-5-21-606747145-1060284298-1202660629-1000\Components\7C3447A
0A9E62D11AA2A000A9CF0750B

Note: the registry keys will be different in your machine because the
user data will be different

Not only is the drive letter wrong, the path contains a double entry for
the .dll

It should be:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server
Extensions\40\bin\FP4AUTL.DLL

Either navigate to the entries I posted, or search for: FP4AUTL.DLL
or search for the CLSID:
7C3447A0A9E62D11AA2A000A9CF0750B

But make sure you find both instancess

Make sure you find and correct all of them.

Do "NOT" change the drive or volume letter.

I appreciate your attempt to assist me, but I was very clear. There is NO F
drive. The problem, I believed correctly, had to be in the registry
somewhere. I just couldn't find it without additional help. See my other
response.

Thanks again.

You're my hero, Steve. My registry find function was a bit uncooperative (it
didn't like the leading and trailing spaces I inadvertently introduced when
copying the key from the email), but eventually I found both instances.

I wonder why it failed earlier to find any instances of "F:" when I looked.
Perhaps I forgot to turn off the exact match check box.

Anyway, I was filled with joy when FP2000 lit up and played.

Thank you very very much!!!!
