FP 2002 Publishing Error

V

Victor

This Time, I've included my E-Mail to better comunicate
with some of the FP2002 pros. As I've posted before, I am
getting this error when I attempt to publish:

Unable to open "http://renaissancetiling.com".
Server error:Accessing HTTP servers requires 32-bit TCP/IP
networking, which is not
installed or may be misconfigured. Would you like to see
help on how to install it?
Possible causes:
1. The web server may not have the FrontPage Server
Extensions installed.
2. The web server may be temporarilily out of service.
3. If you are connecting through a proxy server, the proxy
settings may be incorrect.
4. An error may have occurred in the web server.

If this server does not support the FrontPage Server
Extensions, FrontPage may still be
able to publish to the server via FTP.

When I simply try to open the web with FP2002 I recieve
and error to the effect that the page is not available or
cannot be accessed.

I've used an MS FrontPage2002 troubleshooting article to
try and diagnose the problem. I have connectivity to my
web, but it almost seems as though FP2002 cannot
communicate to my web? Perhaps this is the server
extensions, can I install them on my own? Or might this
be the local network that's at fault?

I have sent an E-Mail to my ISP explaining the results of
my troubleshooting. Does anyone have any ideas, or has
anyone had this trouble too? I'd like to know how it was
solved.

Howdy,

There are few who understand less about all this than I, but...

A while back, I had the experience you describe. I called my ISP and
found that they did not have the server extensions installed. I asked
if they could install them, they did, and all was fine after that.

Sorry, I can't help you, you are not alone with this
problem. I have the same problem since one week, I'm
desperate now, tried to restore, disable fire wall, etc.
Who knows what to do. My webhost is server101

Yes, I've reset the extensions and E-Mailed SBC Yahoo yet
again about the problem. I am very close to giving up and
trying another web hosting service. After two weeks of
researching, troubleshooting, and E-Mailing all roads
point to a server or proxy server problem.

Some servers have a control panel that will allow you to
install/un-install/re-install the FP server extensions
yourself.

Howdy,

Because of the top posting I truly find it nearly impossible to figure
out who is responding to what...

So, with apologies for my confusion about the thread (and also for my
own ignorance of all this generally):

The extensions need to live on the server that hosts the web.

So the answer "can I install them on my own?" may not be what you
would have hoped. Assuming that the problem is the absence of the
extensions, installing them on your "own" will not do anything for
you.

Yes, you can install them yourself (easily). But doing so would be
relevant only if you have access to the server that will hold the web.

If you want the web to live on your own system, install the extensions
and all may be well.

But since you mention your ISP, I assume that you want them to host
the web. As a result, the ISP has to install the extensions on the
server that will host your web.

Good luck with it,

Top to bottom read we in the FP newsgroups. We don't have the net nanny
rules you subscribe to.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your comment (and for the gratuitous insult.)

My comment had nothing to do with "rules" of any type. It was offered
out of frustration borne of my efforts to decipher a thread that was
uninterpretable to me.

All the best,
