FP 2002 Weirdities

I'm using FP 2002 (XP) under Windows XP to maintain a website that has been
ongoing for nearly two years. I used FP 98 to develop it initially and
upgraded to FP 2002 more than 18 months ago. Everything has been going
great since -- until last week.

Sometime last week, the program developed amnesia. Although it is supposed
to open the last web (and has forever, until last week), it now opens with a
new web each time. I have to manually open the last web. I've made NO
changes to any of the program options in more than a year. Where did the
last web go?

In addition, I use(d) the FP 2002 ftp client to upload changes to the
webpage. Again, since last week, I've been getting a really strange
error -- error 421 time out connection closed -- whenever I try to publish a
page. Again, I've changed nothing and so this refusal of the ftp client to
work properly (actually to work at all) is bewildering. Since last week
I've had to use an external ftp client to upload changed pages to my site --
a monumental p*i*t*a.

Anyone have any idea what might have gone wrong here? What connection is
there between the forgotten web page and the broken ftp client? I'm
stumped.

Thanks.

I've managed to fix the broken ftp client - I had to delete the entry and
re-enter all the ftp site information from scratch. Once I did, everything
works fine now.

As for the amnesia about the last web opened, I'll be damned if I can figure
out how to refresh FP's memory. No matter what I do, it insists on opening
in a new web page rather than re-opening the last web I was working on.
There has to be a registry setting somewhere that controls this. The
options are clearly set to reopen the last web, but FP 2002 is refusing to
do it automatically.

Ideas welcomed here.

Are you sure? Under "Tools" "Options" "Open last web page......" has a check
mark??

As I live and breathe, that option is checked. Unchecking it and
rechecking it does no good whatsoever. I've even tried to repair my office
installation. That doesn't do it either.

I'd try taking out the check, logging out of FP, clearing the cache in the
computer, reboot, then open your web with FP and then recheck. You are
corrupted somewhere.

All kinds of strange changes occurred after clearing the cache and
rebooting. However, that solved the amnesia problem, which is what drove me
here in the first place. Thanks.

Those other "strange things" were there just waiting to bite you as soon as
you solved the loading problem. Glad that did it anyway.
