FP 2003 - Failure to forward form content from site

E

Eric

Hello,

XPP SP2, FP 2003

On a FP site, with FPSE enabled, with everything working well in general, I've got a few simple forms that return an error when the Submit button is pressed (all forms display the same behavior). The error message reads: "Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page: http://sitename.com/htm/contact/contact_home.htm.".

Sometime in the past I had the same problem, and if my memory serves me right, I think I solved the problem by restoring a previous version of the site, after which everything worked fine again. I don't think that there is anything wrong with the host, but rather with my own FP site. When I do a sample site with one page and a simple form and publish it to my troubled site, the the form function works. Also, I've another site with the same host and with identical setup where the forms work fine.

Of course, I can, restore an older version, but I would rather like to find out what I have done to cause this error, as to avoid it in the future, if, and when, it happens again.

Grateful for any suggestions.

Best regards,

If you are using the FP Form Handler to process the forms, the file extensions for the form and
confirmation pages, must be .htm or .html, they can not have any other file extension, such as .asp

Thomas,

Yes, I'm using the FP Form Handler and all file extensions are .htm, as per
default.

My problem is that a previous version (and/or sample site) works fine, but
not my present one. I've not made any major changes between the versions,
apart from minor layout changes, that is, as far as I know, but then I've
must have, unknowingly, done something else as well.

Best regards,

Eric,

Do you have any server-side scripts in these .htm pages? Can you provide a URL?

Eric, Under Form Properties, un-check Send to Other, check Send To and fill in the email address for
receiving the form results.

Ok, when I opened your form in FP, it showed Send to Other as checked.

Do this, remove the file info and just leave the email info and test.

Thomas,

I've removed everything that can be removed, apart from Send to: File name
and E-mail address. The reast is alll cleared out. Unfortunately, I get the
same errorr message. However, when I quickly put in another sample site in
place of my ordinary site, the form whent through. But reloadning the
specialitycruises site gives me the same error as before.

Well, let me not take up more of your time now, I'll reload an older version
that works, and maybe I'll find out some time what went wrong.

Many thanks for your help and your time.

the Form name constantly changes to a default, like this FrontPage_Form1,
even though I've changed the name several times.

If you are using FrontPage validation the form name will always change to
FrontPage_FormX, where X is the count (of forms) to the form starting at the
<body> tag. This cannot be changed, except by not using FP validation.

Ron,

That's very good to know, as I've tried to set the name myself, repeatedly,
and in the name consistency, but I'll refrain from that from now on.

Thanks very much.

Remove the Send To filename and just leave the email address.
