FP 2003 Used ftp for Publishing - now need http://

S

Sandy

Please help!! I publish many different websites with no issues except one
website I am needing to work on again. Originally this site had to be
published using ftp:// but now I am trying to publish using http://. FP
keeps remembering the ftp. When I change the remote properties so this is
http:// I receive this msg:
"Unable to open http://www.(websitename.com). Possible causes: 1: web
server may not have FP extensions, etc etc."
The server does have FP extensions and my bosses pc can publish this just
fine. It is like it is in the cache somewhere and won't start correctly
using the remove properties. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

Use File Menu | Publish Site and enter the URL.

I've done that. It displays the original ftp:// and is requesting my
username/pw. So I select cancel and I get to "remote properties" area which
I then switch the selection to http://. As soon as I enter the information,
I get that message.

And does your hosted server have the FP Server Extensions applied (and repaired since your last ftp)

Yes. My boss can publish this fine. It seems it is almost like a cache
issue. Please let me know if you have any ideas. I need this working
quickly.

Go here: http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm and download FP Cleaner ( with
Expression Web Designer and SharePoint Designer support )
Download links are at the bottom of the page.
Run the functions that clear:
The Hidden Temporary files.
The Hidden Cache (*.web) files.

Then try to publish.
See if it helps.

Steve-This didn't work either. As soon as I opened this particular site
after running the program you suggested and tried to publish a page it was
the same as alwyas. It is asking to confirm the username and to enter the
password. It shows that it is still trying to use ftp://. So I have two
choices: Enter the password or hit "cancel". Cancel allows me to go to
"remote website properties" where it again shows this as ftp://

So I change to http:// and it just won't work! It doesn't even think, it
immediately responds with the msg I mentioned before. Please continue to
help! This is important as it is a school I am trying to update...
Thanks to each of you for your efforts. I really do appreciate it!

Steve, Do you have any other thoughts on this. The program you suggested
didn't help my situation. I am still not able to change the ftp to http.
This is so frustrating! I have google searched and read much only to learn
that others have run into this situation. I just don't know how to solve
this.
