FP 98-Setting "default.htm" instead of "index.htm"

Greetings,

I'm moving FP 98 to a new computer.

How do I set the folder DEFAULT file name to "default.htm," replacing
"index.htm?"

I copied the Webshare folder to the new computer. When I imported my
existing webs, the existing "default.htm" filenames were changed to
"index.htm."

I recall changing the setting long ago, but I cannot find where.

Which OS is on your new computer, as Windows XP Home doesn't support a web server, and the default
would be index.htm.

I have XP Professional.

I changed the default to "default.htm." Possiby that was in Microsoft
Personal Web Server. Now Front Page Web Server appears to run.

Also, I can't get at least some of my offline web pages to run locally on my
machine as before.

1. When you installed FP98, you need to do a custom install, so as to not install the FP98
extensions or FP Personal Web Server which is not supported under Windows XP Pro. Also the webshare
folder is no longer used, so you need to remove all.

2. Install IIS under Control Panel | Add/Remove Window Component with the FP extensions, then you
need to publish the old site to http://localhost either from the other computer or from a
live/remote site on the internet that has the FP extensions.

Are you sure you need a login, if working locally with IIS?

Correct. I don't need a login. I was "given" one when I installed FP.

Is there a way to eliminate the login?

I have FP2002 and FP2003 on Windows XP Pro with IIS, and no login is required to access localhost.
However thinking back to FP98, it always required a login. Did you install FP under Windows XP Pro
as the administrator of the machine, and are you logging into the PC as the Admin. when you run
FP98?

I do not have to log on to my computer.

Upon installing FP, I did not have to go through any kind of login.

I just did a lot of pointing and clicking.

I gave up on using FP 98 and bought FP 2003.

I tried the workaround in Knowledge Base Article-196308, "Name and Password
Are Not Accepted When Opening Web."

That didn't help so . . .
