FP Creating its own folders VTI_CNF folder

Lauren

i opened my website up today and a bunch of red x's where showing up in my
side navigation. this was caused by these "_vti_cnf" folders being
automatically created for some reason in everyone of my existing folders.
since my navigation is set up using asp and looks for a graphic of every
folder, it caused it to look for a graphic for each of the vti_cnf folders.
i ended up having to manually go in and delete every last one of those
buggers. why did this happen and how? there where no changes made on my
end or the server prior to this discovery.

thanks,

lauren

The _vti_cnf should have no impact on your pages, especially if using ASP.

it did impact my side navigation because the way the asp custom script is
written on the homepage for the entire site, it tells pull in a graphic for
the side navigation everytime a new folder is created automatically. then i
create my graphic link and name it the EXACT same as the folder and it
automatically pulls it in and links it. since these vti_cnf folders
generated themselves on here some how its causing my site to look for their
graphic. i can't understand why it did this since i do not publish my
updates, i only open the website in FP and then open the files i want to
modify and save back. i have had this site for 2 yrs and the only other
time it did this was when the site was moved to a new server.

because this site includes customized coding the only time i published the
site was in the very begining. that is when it created the necessary
vti_cnf folders and then my programmer went in and made his modifications to
the code so that it would automatically pull in the side navigation
everytime a new folder is created it looks for a graphic named the same
thing and it pulls it in and links it to the page. i update by opening the
site and just saving back the individual pages i update. i don't know why
FP would decide to regenerate those folders after all this time when i've
been doing it this way for years. the last time it did this was when we
switched servers, but this time nothing has changed!

in message Those are files FP creates to manage your Web. You should not mess with
them.
