FP Database on Unix Server

R

Rick Cassel

Hello, my webhost has FP extensions installed on the server and other
aspects of FP wizardy works swell. However, I am wondering now if it is at
all possible to have a FP database, either Access.mdb or MySql access to a
database on unix server with FP.

If this is possible, please a point in the right direction would be greatly
appreciated. If not, I guess it is off to the store to get a PhP
programming book....heh heh. The linux guy says "We dont have ODBC"

Thanks,

Rick

Access will not work on UNIX. MySql will *if* your host supports it.
You'll need to ask them.

I'm thinking you could get the drw working under chili asp by converting an
access database to *.dbf. Needless to say I've never tried this - a windows
server would be a much better option for database work wiith FP.

Rick,
do you have asp support (eg chili) on your server? If yes you can connect to
any db (except access - but see my prior post) through odbc if no then
there's no way to use the fp database features.

Unless you have a good reason to stick with unix I'd suggest investigating
windows based hosts, if you're wanting to start database work they will be a
better choice for you.
