FP extensions goodbye - what is new?

So FP extensions cannot be downloaded and installed on Windows XP Pro
anymore. Without FP extensions, one cannot set up FP to work with IIS.
Therefore one cannot use XP Pro for major testing before publishing to
remote website?

There then does not seem to be any reason to use XP Pro because of server
capabilities for web testing anymore because one will not be able to use the
features dependent upon having a server? This was one of the main reasons I
liked FP 2003.

Basically now one should carefully consider whether to go with Microsoft
supported products or something else since the pc with XP Pro (server) is
becoming obsolete?

What will Vista do?
Will there be server options with Vista?
How will the new Microsoft web software work with Vista?
What will be the cost to try to continue with Microsoft products for web
design.

Any thoughts, comments?

Okay, so as long as you have the XP Pro cd, you should be able to install FP
extensions. But have there been updates? Will it still function properly?

But anyway what is the future of Vista, the replacement for FP, and pc with
server capabilities? Would it be wise to abandon idea of testing on pc and
purchase web space to do testing? If you want to pursue creating dymamic
websites (using database, etc. php or ASP) then you will need to use server?

The extensions on the CD are for the FP2000 extensions which handle all of the basic function of FP,
just some of the new runtime function added in FP2002 will not work.

The FP replacement(s) will work with the extensions if installed. You would still need to use a web
server to test any server-side scripting / database usages, etc.

FP Extensions hasn't been updated since FP2002 and they wont be. The
existing Extensions will ofcourse continue to work like they always
have. They will however not be supported on the next generation of
Servers from Microsoft.

Vista is not the replacement for FP, it is a new OS.
Expression Web is the replacement for FP and it comes with its own
server to preview ASP.NET pages which is the serverside technology EW
supports.
No matter what serverside technology you use, you ofcourse need a
server that supports it.
That doesn't necessarily mean a local server. You can upload to your
host and test there.

What will Vista and the new FP replacement do? You will not have server
capabilities anymore then unless you purchase web space or server? Do you
know?

FP replacement will work with disk-based webs, just like the FP2000 and up currently do, no server
required, unless you want test locally.

If you are comfortable with your current version of FP, Windows, etc. then there is no reason to
upgrade.

pricing will be? Then I would need to know if hosting company will support
it, becuase if it does not, it would not matter if I upgraded or not.

You can use the FP server extensions with Expression Web on Windows XP, as
well as Windows 2000 and 2003 servers.

Upgrades are available -
$99 from Microsoft.com,
$89 from amazon.com,
£85 from amazon.co.uk (was from January 31 2007, now "coming soon")
Then I would need to know if hosting company will support

If your host supports FPextensions or FTP, they support Expression Web.
You may also require asp.NET 2.0 if you use that in EW. I do not use
asp.NET 2.0 (yet), but do use Expression Web.
