FP HTTP Timeout and Subwebs

C

Christopher

Hi: I manage several large FP sites, and have recently (within the last few
weeks) started experiencing problems I've concluded are HTTP timeout problems
(big files taking longer to load than the HTTP connection allows, "When the
connection speed between the client and the server is slow and the size of
the Web to be transferred is large, the server may stop serving FrontPage
before the transfer is complete," according to Microsoft.

Converting the web to subwebs is an option but does not address the problem
of uploading a large (12MB) file... Or odes it?

Additionally: when I changed a web into several subwebs and tried to publish
the subweb, FP attempted to publish the subweb to the root folder. When I
change a web into several subwebs,. Do I then need to delete the existing web
off of the server and re-publish the entire deal from scratch?

And won't THAT cause timeout problems? Help!

Thanks--

Have you talked to your host about increasing the server time out settings??

No, and they didn't volunteer. Can you recommend a timeout setting? I believe
the upload takes about five minutes, by which time I've lost my connection.

Thanks for the reply.

I would ask them to set it at 5 minutes and see what happens.

Also check with your ISP ( not your hosting company ) and see if they have
file upload "size" limits set.

Server the time out my not help the large file problem unless the host is willing to increase the 1 MB defailt file limit
The host needs to do it
The Default is set to 1 MB anonymous uploads.
There is a command that they can run on the server that will increase the anonymous
upload size for a given web site. The command (for all ports) is as follows :

owsadm -o setproperty -pn vti_maxuploadcontentlength -pv 12000000

The Owsadm.exe can be found at C:\Program files\common files\Microsoft Shared\Web server extensions\50\bin folder.

The size at the end of the line is in bytes.
