FP: IMPORT vs PUBLISH from remote site to local hard drive

My computer and all my backup files were destroyed (along with everything
else I owned) in Hurricane Katrina. I maintain four websites and lost the
copies of the sites that were on my hard drive, along with the backups.

After replacing my computer, I installed FP, opened the remote web site and
did an IMPORT -- I imported the files on the remote server to my hard drive.
This worked fine for all four sites.

HOWEVER -- the imported sites don't look the same as the original site --
the characteristics of the theme seem to have changed. So far I have noted
the following differences in the sites:
-- When I make a bulleted list, the text that follows each bullet is jammed
up against the bullet; previously the text was separated from the bullet by
a couple of spaces.
-- When I insert a horizontal line, the line is a simple black line where it
used to be a thick, colored line.
-- Style of the headings is different -- text is all black, not colored.

Should I have PUBLISHED from the remote web site to my hard drive instead of
IMPORTING? When I imported to the hard drive, did that cause the site to
lose some of the formatting?

Yes, you should publish. The import function only imports what is seen by a
browser, so shared borders, include files, navigation structure, themes, asp
pages, databases, etc. are not imported.

Thank you, thank you.

Now, it seems as though I have screwed up two sites. This is what happened.

1. I maintain four websites. When I got my new computer, loaded all my
applications, set up config files, etc., I imported all four sites from the
remote server to my hard drive.
2. Then, I published some new pages from my computer to two of the sites.
Now, when I go to the sites on my browser, the shared borders, colors,
bullets, etc. are not like the original. I assume this is because when I
imported I lost the "original" site and when I published, the changed info
on my computer overwrote the original which was still on the remote
server -- hence, the sites now do not look like I want them to.
3. The two sites to which I have not published new pages still look the
same. I plan to delete them from my hard drive and publish from the remote
server back to my hard drive, thereby preserving them as is.
4. Now, the question is: How do I get the changed sites back to the way
they were before I imported to my computer then published back to the remote
server?

Hope this is not too confusing.

Yah, you wacked those two.

When you Publish the other two from remote to your local...Publish to a NEW
web name, that way you'll have the old one on the hd too as a backup.
