I have tried everything

I have Windows XP Pro SP3
FrontPage 2003 SP3
IIS5
FrontPage Extensions 2000 installed

_vti_inf.html file does exists

IE7 I type this url http://www.tomtest.com:81/testsite/defrault.htm

The web site appears no problem

I want to publish from FP to this site to get the hit counter to work

Every time I try to publish using http://www.tomtest.com:81/testsite I get
this error

Unable to open http://www.tomtest.com:81/testsite
server error the web server at http://www.tomtest.com:81/testsite does not
appear to have Windows Sharepoint Service Installed
Possible cause
1. The web server may not have the Frontpage server extesnsions installed
2. The web server may be temperarliy out of service
3. If you are using proxy .........
4. An error may have occurred in the web server.

1. FPSE is installed to the best of my knowledge
2. the web server is operational tested via url in IE7
3. not using a proxy server
4. No errors that I can find

I am a a total loss here

I also can not publish to my Windows 2003 server that is running IIS6 site
and it does have Sharepoint installed that is in another NG posting

I am hoping to get one of these to work soon

ANy ideas or suggestions thanks

Tom

Are the extensions installed on Port 81? - they are normally installed on
Port 80.

Not sure, I just uninstalled FPSE 2000 and installed FPSE 2002 on my pc

But I still can not connect

Trying everything I just do not get why this is such a big problem just to
publish to a site via a url should be a lot easier than this.

I do not know what I am missing or doing wrong

I just tried use a command line function of FPSE

owsadm -o install -p 81 myusername -sp publish

But that fails also

Wrong syntex

the server instance not specified.

my site on this pc is

http://www.test.com:81/testsite

the pc name is tom001
my logon is tom full domain admin and w/s rights

this is from article id: 825489

If I can get it to publish on my pc first then work on the server that would
be a good start

But I am very confused here..

Thanks

Tom

I don't know why you are trying to publish to port 81, but it won't work
unless you install and configure the extensions on 81...the standard port by
default is 80

Thanks

I have my IIS default web site on my windows xp pro set at port 81 for some
reason I do not remember why.

I tried to change to default web site back to port 80 but I can not start
the web site I get this error

Event Type: Error
Event Source: W3SVC
Event Category: None
Event ID: 115
Date: 2/4/2009
Time: 4:42:07 PM
User: N/A
Computer: TGKW001
Description:
The service could not bind instance 1. The data is the error code.

So if I can not get the default web site to run on port 80 then how do I
install the FPSE on port 81

I was looking at the properties of the default web site and the Server
Extensions 2002 tab shows up.

but when I click on SETTINGS the web site is pointing to a port 80 web site
and not my port 81. So as you said it defaults to port 80

I wish I could figure out why I can not use port 80 on my pc I do not know
of any other prodcut that is using port 80

Does the error message above give you any glues?

Thanks again for your help I really need it

I do not need to publish to my web site on my pc

I got the hit counter to work on my testsite on my pc also.

After I changed the default web site to port 80
I uninstalled FPSE 2002 then installed it again

Now the FPSE funtions are working.

I thought I had to publish on my local site also but I am editing the site
from with in frontpage.

All is good now

Thanks

Tom
