FP200 Counter, hide info

We recently removed our Bravenet counter after they changed their coding, we
were at 80,423 visitors since 1998. We want to use our own FP counter but to
do so we either have to start at zero, or we can set the start at the number
we had with the Bravenet counter. If we do that, the problem then becomes
visitors who view our code would see that we started at 80,423. if I were a
visitor and saw this I would think that this site did not really have that
many visitors. We have LiveStats, so proving the number is not a problem,
but how many would request such information. Is there a way to set the
number, but make it so it is not visible to others that view our source?

Insert your hit counter and let it start at zero.
Publish the page.
Close the local version and then open the live version
in FrontPage.
In the _private folder right click on the file named
pagename.htm.cnt and select open with notepad.
( pagename being the name of the page with the hit counter,
i.e. index.htm.cnt etc. )
You will see an entry that looks like:
FPCountFile 00000000000
Change it to:
FPCountFile 00000080423
being careful not to change the number of digits.
and then save the file.
Close your web.
Your hit counter is now reading 80423.

Thanks Steve, that did the job. Another question; according to MS FP info on
creating counters they say to start with a canvas of 200pix by 40pix/72res.
I inserted the 0-9 numbers evenly spaced with a resulting image 2 to 3 times
larger than we need. When I reduced the size and loaded our home page the
numbers ran into each other. Do you have any suggestion on how to get a
clean (numbers) counter with small size?

You can make a custom counter image any size,
as long as the width is evenly divisible by 10.
So, 100, 110, 120, 130, etc will work.
fpcount.exe ignores the height of the image,
but obviously it should be "propertional.'
I've made custom images several different ways,
including making 10 seperate 16 by 16 icons with an icon editor/
icon creation program, then merging them into a panoramic view
in 0 to 9 order using IrfanView and then saving that image as a.gif.
It's mainly just a case of trial and error.
I't's best to play with font sizes on the background of your
choice, do the print screen routine and then "cut" the image
paste into paint or an image editor and play with it.

Some examples of ones I've made are on the bottom
of these pages:
www.crownlogistic.com
www.95isalive.com
and www.95isalive.com/instant.htm
The smiley figures in the last one are part of the counter image.

Thanks Steve, I made the originals at 200x40 (perMS) then reduced the size
from there. This gave me what i was looking for.
