fp2000 and Vista compatibility issues when publishing web

S

SpdyPdy

Can anyone answer this question? First, the problem. I am using fp2000 with
Vista. FP2000 seems to work in vista but not entirely. I can create/edit
web pages. The problem is using the publish function. Also It gives me an
error message when I even try to open a web using the "File/Open Web" from
the main toolbar. The error message: "Some of the files that meet the search
criteria may be missing from the list. Not enough memory available to
complete the operation. Close other programs to make more memory available,
and then try again." My question is: Is this problem because of
incompatibly between the to products, or is their some kind of fix for this
problem? I have tried "repair and replace" with no difference. I have
searched every resourse offered by MS and havent found this problem mentioned
anywhere.

If you are working on existing webs, how were they moved to the Vista machine?

I cannot even open a pre-existing web because I immediately get tha error
code I mentioned in my last post. I am perfectly able to use every function
when I use my friends computer which runs on win98SE. However, on my Vista
computer I am able to use the "File/Edit With Microsoft FrontPage". It askes
for my name and password just fine. It even lets me publish to my harddrive.
It just wont let me publish a local web to an online web.

FP 2000 by default installs a Personal Web Server, which is not supported on
Vista. Did you do a custom install without the PWS?

Also, you probably won't find anything on the MS site because FP 2000 has
been out of support for years.

IMHO, FP 2000 is not going to be very compatible with Vista.

Ok, at least I got some confirmation. Even though MS dosent support fp2000
anymore, they should atleast document what you just told me. I just thought
since they have documented an issue similar to this with fp98 along with a
fix, that they would mention that this fix they offered does not work for
fp2000. I tried the fix and it didnt work. Also when I installed fp2000, it
came as part of MS2000 Office Pro. It installed with no problems or mention
of the Personal Web Server. I noticed that in win explorer, there is no
folder named "web folders" like it does on the win98 machine. Is there a
registry fix (like the one for fp98) that can add this "web folders"?

Microsoft, like other vendors, does not further document any software that
is out of life and out of support.

Why would you expect them to?

Maybe because they do for ms fp98. Besides, maybe they do not support fp2000
anymore but correct me if i am wrong, they do support Vista and I believe
this is a Vista problem right? Anyway, it would have made it a whole lot
easier for me if they just came out and said that these two products are not
compatible instead of leaving its customers in the dark about this problem.

It is not a Vista problem, I have O2K Premium installed and my FP works
fine.

What I would do is to uninstall O2K, and resinstall- when you are doing that
you will want to do a custom installation and remove the PWS when you get to
it.
