fp2000 vs 2002 images

I do not update my site often and still administer it with FP 2000. recently
I noticed that some of my directories, have suddenly decided that my image
links are broken.

In the following example:
abc.com|
dir 1
dir2
dir3
Dir 1 and 2 work fine, but any refernces to images within dir3 lead me to
error page 403. Which suggests a permission issue, yet using FTP I can check
and the permissions are all read and write.

Could this be due to FP 2002 extentions differences, or what? I have tried
deleting the images and re inserting them, I can navigate to the image file
with the Browse feature, but the image preview in FP2000 is blank and after
inserting the image the link shows the little red X.
I have uploaded new pictures to the directory, the upload goes fine, the
filename appears in the directory but all attempts to link to the pictures
gives the error 403.

All ideas appreciated
