FP2002/FP2003

A friend has set up a site using FP2003. He has asked me to maintain it and
given me user id and password which work (I have tried them). I have FP2002
and made some changes to the site with it. When I tried to publish, I got
an error to the effect that the folder _vti_pvt could not be found. Is
this a compatibility problem - i.e. FP2002 not being upward compat.? If not
can someone provide an explanation please - (honest, I did not mess with
this or any other system folder).

Thanks

Peter

How did you get the site onto your PC to work on it? How
did you publish the site to your friend's host (http or
FTP)? Does the friend's host support the Front Page
Server Extensions?

Hi

My friend gave me a CD with the site folder which I loaded onto my drive. I
then worked on it and went to File>Publish Website. The host does support
FP Server Extensions. I find that I can download the site by typing in the
http address and can maintain it that way, but I would still like to know
what the problem is with the _vti_pvt folder. Thanks

After you transferred the site from the CD did you remove all read only attributes from all files / folders in Windows Explorer

You would be better off starting over with the changes, after you have open the live site on the
remote server and then published that to your local machine, make your changes, then republish back
to the live remote server. Scrap the CD version.

I tried, but the folder retained a greyed out tick in the read only box!
I think I will adopt the method recommended by Thomas, below, in future.

Thanks - Peter
