FP2002 shuts down when opening a page

Donna

After opening a web in FP2002, when I attempt to view a
page, the program shuts down with an illegal operation
error - details= page fault in XXXXX @ XXXXX, must shut
down, contact provider...then freezes the entire system -
I have to reboot.

I've been using FP2002 for over a year with no problems.
I've had to reinstall Internet Explorer 6 and Outlook
Express 6, and ever since then Front Page doesn't function.

I've tried the repair tool, and even removed and
reinstalled FP several times. One of the times when I got
the error, it offered to send the error message to MS. I
did, and it advised me to run an update on my Office
products. I use Office Professional 2000, upgraded to
2002 (through the FP install). I've run ALL the updates
available, and reinstalled FP2002 again, and it still will
not work.

HELP!!!!!!I am on the support line HOLD as I write this...

Mike,

No, MS did not resolve my problem as of yet. I've spent
about 4 hours today connected to India trying to fix
this. We've done a complete uninstall, including all
keys, registers, temp files, folders, and reinstalled
(complete version) several times to no avail. They are
planning to research it further and return a call to me
tomorrow.

To answer your question, no, it doesn't necessarily happen
to any page I open (webs existing on my computer), but
sometimes it does. It absolutely occurs when I try to
open the index pages on any web I have.

Any thoughts will be very much appreciated. Thanks!
Donna

Hi Donna,

On "HOLD" -- I'm sure that MS has corrected this by now.

If not, does this happen on all pages? What happens when you open a new page?

After you have tried all the steps listed below (some of which you say you have),
and if it seems to be related mainly to your index or home page,
look for something common on your index pages that may be causing it
(a script or server side call you always use, etc)
and try removing that element

Try the usual repairs in the sequence below:
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Local Settings\Temp
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
3) In Windows Explorer Find and delete the file hidden file CMDUI.PRF
Usually in C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Microsoft\FrontPage\State
4) Run a Repair on IE
(see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=318378 )
5) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, MS Office and your Video card
(Windows Update and Office Update sites, plus your video card supplier site)
6) Open FP and Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins,
7) Open your FP Web/Site and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
