FP2003 - cannot do site admin because FP thinks there is no browse

R

Robert (AAT)

Something that has worked for years no longer works correct.

I have a subweb attached to my main website that is password protected. Up
to a few weeks ago I could open up the website in FP2003, provide the admin
username/password, and then click on the subweb provide the credentials again
and be able to select TOOLS / SERVER / SITE ADMINISTRATION or PERMISSIONS.

Now for some reason FP2003 now gives the following error message:

"A word wide web browser, such as Internet Explorer, is required to use this
feature"

???

I have both IE7 and Firefox, they have been on my computer long before this
problem started to appear.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

From your post log, it seems your problem is: when attempting to
administrate the sub-website, you receive an error message "A word wide web
browser, such as Internet Explorer, is required to use this feature". Is
that correct?

Based on my experience, this issue occurs because of many reasons. Please
try the suggestions below to narrow down:

* Suggestion 1: Reset IE settings
===========

1. Start IE
2. Select menu Tools-->Internet Options-->Advanced Tab
3. Click Reset
4. Close and restart IE

Now try again in FP2003 to see if this issue is resolved.

* Suggestion 2: Check registry settings
============

If the registry entries related to IE and FrontPage have been changed by
another application, such issue may occur. Please follow the steps below to
check the settings:

1. Click Start>Run
2. Type "regedit" and click OK
3. Browse to the following two entries and check if their default values
are the same as indicated below:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\open\command
Default: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iexplore.exe\shell\open\command
Default: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" %1

After you have changed the default values, try again to see if this issue
is resolved or not.

If something is unclear, please let me know.

Regards,

Leon Hao

I am having the same problem with this message A word wide web
browser, such as Internet Explorer, is required to use this feature
I have a new computer with Vista on it and I need now to reset the passwords
for FrontPage. I've gone back to the old computer to do so, but I keep
getting that message when I try to go to server/administration etc.
I tried both of the solution recommended in this post

Unless you have a web server and the FP extensions installed, which is not possible under Windows
Vista, then you do not have access to FPSE Admin functions.

If you need to change your login info on live//remote server, then you need to contact your web
host.
