Could be related to the folder last used in the File Open or File Open Site dialog
- especially Network Places, which can take time to update whenever opened the 1st time
- or any network drive if that is where your local site is located
Also the FP web cache file is supposed to speed up opening a FP Site, but if corrupted can actually slow down the process - delete
it using Tools Site Settings Advanced - Delete Files
Why would you be using File Open when you have a site already opened?
- just select the File in Folder List and right click to open or just double click it

| That's not it. I'm using the software as designed.
| I was not trying to find a new website, just editing my existing site
| offline before publishing. The drop down menu sticks for about 30 seconds
| with no hard visible drive activity. I'm not selecting any files or folders
| yet because the drop down menu is frozen. Once it stops hanging, I can then
| select folders as needed.
