FP2003 - Hyperlinking on a remote site?

B

Brett...

Using FP2003 to edit a FPSE enabled web directly, ie not a disk based web.

In FP2000, when creating a hyperlink I am able to navigate the web through
folders to link to another page.
In FP2003, when creating a hyperlink, I am unable to see the folder
structure and HTML files within the subweb. I can see recently opened pages
only.

If I open the folder window to the left I can see the folder structure but I
can't create a link unless I manually select the properties from the folder
window and copy and past the URL to the hyperlink window.

I'm an experienced FP2000 and FP98 user and I know this must be something
I'm doing work but having trawled through google I can't find a reference to
the problem.

I've seen this problem only once that I remember in 18 months of using
FP2003 (including the Beta). My solution was to open the subweb in
FrontPage. Then restarted the hyperlink dialogue (in the original web) and
it populated correctly.

Usually running a Tools Site Settings Advanced - delete files, and Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks restores the "view" of all files in
the hyperlink dialog

What happen when you save the page first before you attempt to add links or images, etc.?

In FP try Tools Site Setting Advanced - Delete Files, then Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks

Or before you Open FP
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
- in FP 2003 you need to look in the super hidden folder
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache

| Well I tried that and it made no difference, I still cannot see any files or
| folders unless I open them.

Brett...

The site has been accessed from a number of stations from within and outside
the network, all of them running FP2003, so the advice below isn't
appropriate as other subwebs on the server work just fine.

Brett

In FP try Tools Site Setting Advanced - Delete Files, then Tools
Recalculate Hyperlinks

Or before you Open FP

Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp

2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server
Extensions\Cache

B

Brett...

It brings up a save dialogue box and allows you to save the file just fine.

Are you talking about the page or the images?

I was asking about you: Creating a new page, saving the page, then insert the images that have
already been imported into the current open web.

The point is I am unable (see screenshot below) to navigate to any folders
(including images) as they are not displayed in the hyperlink dialogue box.

Sorry, I can not duplicate this issue when I have site open on a remote server in FP2003.

B

Brett...

Stefan
You gave this advice before (see below) and unfortunately after trying it, I
was still unable to see any folders or files :-(

Brett
W/ your site open in FP
Close all pages
Run Tools Site Settings Advanced - Delete Files
Run Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
- try to open a page & add a hyperlink

B

Brett...

So has anyone got any other suggestions as to how I can get this site to
work correctly using FP2003?

Brett

B

Brett...

So has anyone a way of solving this problem?
As well as the advice below (which didn't work), I've tried publishing the
web to disk, deleting everything and publishing to the web.
Result - no difference, I still can't see any folders when creating a
hyperlinl or saving a page.

The same web opened in FP2000 has no difficulties.

I have to say, FP2003 is causing me considerable grief - See other thread
"FP and stored passwords"

Brett...

Well this problem seems to have beaten everyone here!
For the record I've tried deleting every file and folder from the remote
web, alas to no avail.

By any chance was a beta or trial version of FrontPage 2003 ever installed on this machine??
If so run regedit and go to: ( actually even if it wasn't do this anyway )

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\FrontPage\Explorer\FrontPage Explorer\Settings

In the right panel, right click on "FolderDetailColumns" select modify, clear the value and click
ok.

Do the same for "FilesDetailColumns"

Close regedit and then close and reopen FrontPage and the web and see if it's fixed.

No Steve it has only ever been a fully licensed copy.
I'll try the suggestion below anyway, I'm that desparate!

Brett...

Sadly after trying this it did not make any difference.
In any case the problem with the web isn't a local issue - UNLESS the same
local problem is with every station running FP2003 who has tried accessing
the site.
Accessing the subweb with FP2000K and there are no problems - all folders
are visible.

Help!
