FP2003 Install

I have followed all of your advice for installing FP2003 on both Vista and XP
machines with respect to loading MS Office versions from oldest to newest and
I still get the error requesting a CD with a version of Office XP. I have
licensed copies of Office XP for Teachers and Students (which loaded
flawlessly on an XP laptop along with FP2003 previously) and MS Office 2003
Professional in addition to MS Office 2007 which came with the new Vista
machine. I have disable autoplay in the registry in an attempt to control
the CD read when the disk swap is requested for product validation; didn't
work. What can I do? Your assistance and expertise is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Sounds like you are trying to install an upgrade version of FrontPage.
This requires a *previous* version of *FrontPage*, either as a
standalone product or as part of an Office suite, for example Office
2000 Premium, Office 2002 Special edition Premium Upgrade, Office 2002
with FrontPage. Office without FrontPage is not enough, regardless of
the misleading wording in the on screen messages.

In any case, Office XP Students and Teacher's edition cannot be used as
a qualifying product - the license does not allow this product to be
upgraded.

Thanks Ron. Why did it work before with Office Teacher/Student then is what
I am wondering and why won't it work with Office 2003 Professional? The
FP2003 is not marked as an upgrade nor is the Office 2003 anywhere on the
package and I paid full retail value for FP2003 and have all the licensing
info for Office 2003 Pro that came with a brand new Dell XPS210. I guess the
Teacher/Student thing makes sense, but only slightly if I accept that
software has an expiration date...? Are these applications being outmoded by
the Service Packs being applied to the OS. Interested in trying to work this
out, or should I give up?

If you are asked for a qualifying product then you appear to be
installing an upgrade version.

In your earlier post, you said you installed Student and Teacher along
side FP2003 - that is not a problem if FP2003 was already installed -
what did you already have on the Win XP box when you installed FP2003 on
that?

Student and Teacher editions are sold at a much reduced price, can be
installed on more PCs than "normal" packages (3 desktops as opposed to 1
desktop + 1 laptop), but cannot be upgraded. They don't expire, but if
a newer version is available Student Teacher versions are replaced, not
upgraded.

Office 2003 Pro does not contain FP2003, and it is the same version as
FP2003 - either way it cannot be a qualifying product since a PREVIOUS
version of FrontPage is required. As I said- the message is misleading,
it says Office and means FrontPage.

Error 1608.
Let me try this one more time Ronx. Forget about the student/teacher
version and all of that. I am using MS Office 2003 Pro and FP2003. These
are separate applications coming from separate CD's and they are not
upgrades. The XP version comes from my Dell reinstall disk (Service Pack 2)
which I used to reformat the machine not too long ago and has all of the
current updates. This shouldn't matter should it? Everyone I work with is
just laughing at me and saying why don't you just drop $500 on Dreamweaver.
I don't have $500 and I think it is reasonable to use FP2003. I just want a
basic web page I can use to post assignments and links for my students. I
would be really happy if you could illuminate the fact that I am making a
stupid mistake during this install process so I can move on. Again thanks
for your time.

Repeating my self here, if FrontPage 2003 is asking for a qualifying
product then it is an upgrade version.
Qualifying products for FrontPage 2003 are earlier versions of FrontPage
(such as FrontPage 2000, FrontPage 2002/XP) or earlier versions of
Office that include FrontPage (such as Office 2000 Premium Edition,
Office 2000 Developer Edition, Office 2002/XP with FrontPage, Office
2002 Premium Upgrade Special Edition).

Office 2003 is a qualifying product for upgrade versions of Office 2007
and Expression Web.

If the FP2003 install is asking for a qualifying product, and it does
not say Upgrade on the CD itself (upgrade is not mentioned on the CD
case) the disc is definitely faulty.

Also see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315995 which also applies to
FrontPage 2003.

I would look at Expression Web as an alternative to FrontPage and
Dreamweaver - Upgrade from Office (any version) for around $99.
