FP2003/WinXP PRO upgrade from FP2000/win98SE ----

I really like this version of FP... it seems to work really
well for all the cleanup I had to do. Now I'm into adding
html pages and I have a problem with the simplest task
of just adding a new page. I used the pinpoint blue
theme and shared borders to generate my fp2000 web.

Adding a new page was simply hitting the File 'new' for
new page and then putting in the text/graphics for the
substance of the new page.

Now FP2003 wants DWT's or Templates and I really
don't want either. I want the site to be consistent for
all pages. Do i have to make a template or a DWT?

I figured out how to get Shared Borders and the Theme
applied to all pages, but the navigation fields don't show
inside the shared borders when I generate a 'new' page.

Is there any way to get a 'new' page to default to the
same as all other pages without generating some new
DWT or Template? My URL is www.regischurch.com.

Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. I've read the help and some of the net sites but
I'm sure not understanding what I'm reading.
Frustration/Stupidity/and lack of sleep has set in.

FP2003 does not demand the use of DWTs; shared borders and themes[1] will
work the same way as in previous versions, as do the navigation bars.
Have you placed the new page in the Navigation View?
Are you using a custom navigation bar or a different theme for the nav bar?
This requires FP2002 extensions on the server.
What do you see instead of the Nav Bar?
Is there an example (preferably of both good and bad pages) we could look
at?

[1] Themes in FP2003 are implemented using CSS only. Previous versions of
FP allowed implementation using choice between CSS and HTML.

Also make sure you have turned on FP Authoring components (nav bars and shared borders) in
Tools Page Options Authoring

I really appreciate the feedback from Ronx and Stephan. My
delayed response is because I can't find out what level the
Server extensions are at. I've called and sent emails to the
server provider and am still waiting for the response.

I already had shared borders and the theme stuff set. I did
a lot of cleanup work following the install of FP2003. I have
no problem editing already existing pages. My problem comes
in when I try to create a new page. I am in Navigation view,
select the page that I want to generate a new one for (
happens to be the latest date meeting minutes). I get a
screen that shows text going down the left hand side of the
page saying add navigation stuff here and I get the selected
page showing in the screen pane that I expected to put data
into. With FP2000, I would see the navigation structure on the
left and a blank new-page-1 on the right where I could place
the new data page.
I'm confused, but still trying to figure it out.

Any help would be appreciated. As soon as I find out what
level extensions are on the Server I use, I'll post another
question. Sorry to be such a pest.

To determine the current version of the FP extensions installed on your live site, open it via FP's
File Menu | Open Web.... Then click on Tools | Web Settings and you will see the server and
extensions version.

FP2003 can work with either the FP2000 or FP2002 extensions. The FP2002 extensions would be
preferred if you want to use new FP2002 features that are unchanged in FP2003 that require the
FP2002 extensions.

Hey Thomas,
I followed your directions and still don't know if this server is
using FP2002 extensions: Opening the site and displaying tools/
site setting gave the following info:
Front Page Server: 5.0.2.2623
Extensions:
Server Version: Apache/1.3.27(Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux)
FrontPage/5.0.2.2623
I opened the 'site settings' under tools because I couldn't find
a 'web settings' item. I really appreciate your trying to help
me with info that I should be getting from the Server people.
I am trully frustrated. I know this should be simple but I'm
in the dark.

At least now I know I still have some unknown problem causing
my attempt to create a 'new page' not showing the navigation
items in the left hand 'shared borders' section. Can you tell
why this is happening from my URL? It's www.regischurch.com .
if that helps any.
I've been reading 3812 postings in this newsgroup looking for
anything that might pertain to my problem. Found lots of inter-
esting stuff but no solution yet. Thank you for any suggestions
you might have.... back to reading <thank God for eyeglasses>.

It appears that when you set up your Shared Border, you set them page by page instead of setting
them as the site default.

You need to open your home page and set the shared border to be the web default, and in HTML / Code
view you should see the following tag:

<meta name="Microsoft Border" content="tl, default">

Currently it reads
<meta name="Microsoft Border" content="tl">

Needless to say, I have FrontPage because I'm a dummy about html.
However, I'm slowly (very slowly) learning. I try setting this as the
default and see if that works (as soon as I figure out how to do that)

It still doesn't work...
* I have shared borders on under Authoring/Tools
* I have customized the Format to show Shared borders.
* I have the FP2002 extensions on my Server
* I still can't create a new-page with the shared borders showing.
I open my PC web site in FP2003, I am under the Navigation view,
I select the last page in the group that I'm trying to create a new
one in (I'm still in navigation view), I select the New under the File
item in the menu and I get a screen asking if I want one from
an existing page or a new page so I select existing and get the
listing of all pages where I go down and select an existing nnnn.htm
page, there is a blank area at the bottom of this page to show
the file id with a dropdown arrow, the dropdown arrow shows the
file id I selected from the list, at the right side is a button that
says create, I select it and I get a new screen.
The left hand side shared borders shows text that says the
insert navigation structure here. The main body shows the old
page data that I selected as a model, and at the top of this
new page area there are three tabs. One showing new-page-1,
and one showing the current nnnn.htm. I try to select the
new-page-1 tab and nothing happens. I quit at this point and
close out FrontPage.
What do I have to do to set the Shared Borders as a default
so that generating a new page gives me the standard banner
at the top of the screen, with the navigation buttons in the
shared borders at the left hand side? Have I lost this support
between the FP2000 and FP2003 versions of FrontPage, or
am I just dumb enough to not catch on to what I'm doing
wrong? Any help would be appreciated --- even being told that
I have to really work to make this web useful under FP2003.
So far I haven't touched my online web at www.regischurch.com.
I am running WinXP Pro.

The info below didn't generate the 'shared borders' html web default.
Under code view, it's still showing:How do I get frontpage to generate this web default in the
html? Is there a parameter or method to do this or will
frontpage let me just edit the code to add the ',default'
text?
I couldn't find anything on setting web defaults for the
Shared Borders in FP help.
Could someone help one more time?

1. Make sure that you are opening the web via File Menu | Open Site under FP2003.
2. Next open each page individually and go to Format Menu | Shared Border and make sure it is set to
the site / web default.
3. Next run Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks.

Other than the above, I can't think of anything else that you could do.

Mine looks just like it except the navigation button is off for
the top and on for the left hand button (which is where It
