FP98 and Win XP Home - incompatible?

Steve Garner

Can anyone please confirm - is FP98 useless on Win XP Home? Something about XP not supporting a web server? I've just spent an evening trying to get it to import a site, and nothing seems to work.

Thanks,

Steve

FP98 was designed to be used with a web server and Windows XP Home doesn't
support any MS web server. You would need Windows XP Pro or Windows 2000
Pro.

Also if your site is hosted on a Unix/Linux server with the FP2002
extensions, if the host upgrades to the latest version of the extensions for
Unix/Linux, it will no longer support the FP98 client application.

Now with that said, you can use FP98 without a web server, by entering the
path to a local folder in FPExplorer.

True, you can't install a Web server on Win XP Home. You
would need to upgrade to Win XP Professional, which
includes IIS.

You should, however, be able to open server-based Webs
located on other computers, or disk-based Webs located on
your own computer.
