FP98 and Windows98

It's time to get a new computer. Most come with XP Home version. Will I be
able to continue to use FP98 by opening my web site and publishing back to
my new computer? I think I read where you have to install something extra
with XP Home to get everything to work.
I've learned a lot from this newsgroup. Contributors, keep up the good
work!

You will have to do a custom install and only install the FP Explorer and FP editor.
Do *not* let it install PWS as it's not supported in XP Home or XP Pro.

Also, you may want to note that XP Home does not inlcude a web server and
there isn't one available for XP Home that supports the FP Server
Extensions. You can still use disk-based webs, but will be unable to test
some features that require an active web server.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the information. Would later versions of FP overcome any of
these problems?

Yes. Later versions do not come with or need a web server for building
pages, so those installation problems disappear. But you will not be able
to test pages that need a web server.
