Fractions in Visio?

Probably best to insert an Equation Editor object. I don't know if you can
get at this directly from Visio or if you need to build one in, say, Word,
and copy it over.

There's always the slash "/" alternative, or you could build a shape that
has a horizontal line in it, and simply hit return to put text above and
below the line.

If you don't mind messing in the ShapeSheet, you could try the following to
make such a shape.

1. Draw a Rectangle
2. Draw a line in the middle of the rectangle
3. Select both shapes
4. Choose Shape > Operations > Combine
5. Window > Show ShapeSheet
6. Find the Miscellaneous.LockCalcWH cell and set the value to 1
7. Find the Geometry section that defines the square. It will have five
rows.
8 . Put your cursor somewhere in the section, then right-click and choose
Delete Section

You now have a shape that has a horizontal line in the middle, yet has nice
resizing handles. You can type text in this shape, placing a Return between
the lines to get nominator and denominators.

A little complex, but works nicely.

Hi Chris, Thanks for your response. Maybe I didn't explain my problem properly.
If I go to file>page setup>page properties>measurement units and select feet
and inches I get just that ex. 1'-6 3/4". If I select inches or inches
(decimal) I get inches as decimal ec. 18.75. If I go to edit>select all>right
click drawing and selct precision and units I can select feet-inch and I'll
get just that 1'-6 3/4". Is there a way to show my example as 18 3/4"?

"0 #/#" seems to work ok. Just type a " after the inserted-field.

Only problem is that you can get some weird fractions, like 8 3/9", which
isn't what us woodworkers want to see...

Lew's question is one that has vexed me for a while.

It's a bug plain and simple.

There is NO setting that allows one to have the default dimensions read
"inches x/y". It's either "feet inches x/y" or inches decimal...

and why is 'inches' and 'inches(decimal)' the same in Page Setup Measurement
Units?

Drives me nuts!

How does this get fixed? Anyone???

thanks.
