Fractions in Word using Alt key and number pad.

Mrs Pamela Horan

I use the Alt key plus number pad to express fractions.
e.g. Alt plus 172 give you ¼ fraction. Is it possible to
obtain a one-third and two-thirds fraction this way.

I can obtain these fractions from Insert, Symbols, but
much prefer to do it the other way.

Thanking you.

Hi, Pamela,

Those characters are present only in some Unicode fonts, and the Alt +
number pad method doesn't work.

In Word 2002 you can type 2153 (for a 1/3 character) or 2154 (for 2/3) into
the document and then press Alt+X.

This doesn't work in Word 2000, where you have to use Insert > Symbol.
However, in that dialog you can click the Shortcut Key button and assign a
shortcut of your choice to each of the characters.
